The First Generation
Roy A. Gannon started his career in real estate in 1921 with a prominent local real estate company. One of his responsibilities with that firm was the development and marketing of an area of Madison now known as Nakoma.
Around 1937, Roy started his own real estate firm which he called "The Roy A. Gannon Company." Roy immediately put his 16 years of experience to work in the development and marketing of Madison's Olbrich Park area, as well as many subdivisions in the villages of Monona and Middleton.
The Second Generation
In 1945, Richard T. Gannon- Roy's only son—returned from World War II to join forces with his father. Soon after that, Roy retired and Richard wasted little time in expanding the company to include a home building company. Under Richard's leadership, the company continued to grow and strongly influence the real estate market in Monona, Middleton, West Port, Windsor and Madison's east side.
In the mid 60s, Richard saw some potential in the small village of McFarland, just southeast of Madison. While still a strong influence in the Madison real estate market, Richard began to focus his development and building business interests on McFarland.
The Third Generation
In 1977, Thomas B. Gannon— Richard's only son—joined his father's business, becoming the third generation realtor/developer in The Gannon Company. Shortly thereafter, Richard retired, leaving control of the company to Thomas. Thomas moved the business to McFarland to better concentrate on development of that growing community.
Over the next three decades, both the Gannon Company and McFarland continued to prosper. Neighborhoods such as Indian Mound Park, Osborn Estates/ Ridgeview, Pleasant Ridge, Country Wood and Highland Oaks were developed, built and marketed by The Gannon Company. The Gannon Company has indeed enjoyed a rich legacy in the Madison area real estate market. It has been almost 75 years of growth and excitement.
